Grey's Anatomy hair misrepresentation

I was recently watching my favorite show in a long time Grey's Anatomy. I like the show for a myriad of reasons - mostly that it's so well written, and that it can make me laugh out loud at something and then be bawling (and I mean end of Steel Magnolias bawling) a few minutes after. I mean when Denny died I don't think I recovered for a solid half hour. And yes, I know, it's a show. It's a good show.
An interesting thing happened when I re-watched one of the earlier episodes in this season. Some patient refered to Meredith as a blonde. ?? Meredith is clearly a brunette in this season. I can't help but say I was a little offended. As if sticking the word brunette in his line made her seem a little less fun. I mean, I as a brunette happen to try to DARKEN my hair while all of my other similar-colored sisters try to lighten it. I happen to think it's mysterious. And isn't Meredith supposed to be "dark and twisty?" I personally see no dark and twisty. She may be sullen-girlesque via Fiona Apple but certainly not dark and twisty. I see Meredith as more of a sad chipmunk. She has some issues but not to the extent that true dark and twisted people have them. So the blonde thing fits her sad chipmunck persona but if they want her be dark and twisty they have to at least get her hair right. They can't call her blonde. Blondes are not dark and twisty.

A picture makes me say 1,000 words

You can tell a lot about someone by their myspace pictures. There are the sad ones who use their senior pictures (awww... I know right? *gag*) that to me says that you wanted to put your best fake foot forward and are sort or insecure about the way you look. “Hey look at this one, see I CAN look good in a picture!”
Then there are the naked ones and the ones with the wet hair or topless or bottomless or both and on and on and on. All I can say about those are Helloooo Slutface wow, you REALLY like attention. Don’t you get cold?
What I really like the goofy ones or the ones where people are holding beer/shots/smokes. It's like hey I'm fun, I like to party and I don't really care if you see me looking perfect or like I'm in the middle of having sex. I'm a fun-loving individual. Of course the BEST ones are the one that your friend took and you look hot AND you have beer/shots/smokes in your hand. Well done! You have the perfect myspace picture. Someone did you a huge favor by getting the angle and the light right on your face AND they didn’t crop out your accessory. Someday I too will have a good myspace picture. All I need is a friend, a camera and a shot.

Highlights my favorite word used to describe the liberal media

Hey, anyone else think the Dixie Chicks video for "Not ready to make nice" is idiotic? Yes? Oh and radical Christians are not as dangerous as people who send their children in to blow up soldiers and themselves. Until Christians start flying planes into buildings that statement will remain idiotic. Just like Sean Penn, just like Alec Baldwin. Idiotic. Sorry to get political but come on people can we please use our brains when using a public medium to talk to millions of Americans?

A.E. Housman

Oh, when I was in love with you
Then I was clean and brave,
And miles around the wonder grew
How well did I behave.

And now the fancy passes by
And nothing will remain,
And miles around they'll say that I
Am quite myself again.

- Goodbye.

Music memories

This is an article I wrote for one of my first Journalism classes. I found it the other day and I'm putting it here not because I think it's that exceptional, but because it was one of the first. Also I have no where else to put it. :)

Column: Entertainment Weekly

When was the last time you heard a truly good song? Perhaps a good song like "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam or maybe a song that reminded you of the first time you heard "Stairway to Heaven?" One that touches you and moves you to thinking beyond the beat and lyrics and more to what the song means to you. One that touches you on a personal level. When was the last time you thought the band you were listening to one the radio was maybe a musical genius. Not recently.

Music today is flat. It's boring, unimaginative and forced. With people like Nelly, Britney Spears, and The Pussycat Dolls running the show, it's no wonder all the good music is retreating underground. In a world where music is getting more sexed-up and dumbed-down and the artists are getting younger and younger, it's no wonder there's nothing with a soul out there.
In the 1990s, the backlash from the 80s disco era gave way to one of the most influential and brilliant music scenes since the beginning of Rock n Roll via Elvis. The powers that be dubbed it "grunge" but I prefer to simply call it good music. Bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Bush, The Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more emerged with talent, passion for their art and get this kids: they wrote their own songs!
Lyrics like Britney Spears' "I'm a slave for you (kitty kitty)" rightfully seem trite next to some of Radiohead's declarations about the human condition. And everyone has gone pop. From the "harder" musicians like Good Charlotte with their cutesy punk lyrics "girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money," to the latest in laughable dribble from artists like Ludacris or Lil Bow-wow, everyone's trying to fit into the glam, I-have-more-money-than-you music style. Bigger is not always better and right now it's certainly NOT.
Lines have been smudged, bridges have been burned and really, what does it all mean? What's the point? Where's the heart Britney, where's the heart? No where near the music biz right now. Let's hope it makes a comeback.

You

You make a mess of me
I'd dance a thousand steps for you
If you say yes to me
I'll be whatever gets you through

Quote-y-ness

I've decided to post some of my favorite quotes. These are quotes from my friends, from shows, movies, books, poems ... some I've written, some from other sources. I'm not telling which ones are mine though :) I truly wish I could express how I'm feeling in words better but every time I have an emotion my brain looks up a song that goes with that emotion and plugs it in. Before I know how I feel I have a song for it humming away in my head. So, if I know you I've probably had a song for you at one point in my life. Maybe I still do ...

The one I've been humming lately is As is by Ani Difranco.
The second the situation that made me think of this song happened, there it was spinning in my head. I didn't even have to search for it.
